I'm starting to like the French.
My goodness. Is it the end of the world? These are surely signs that the natural order has been overturned. Sarkozy has this to say at the UN, responding to Obama:
Obama: “We must never stop until we see the day when nuclear arms have been banished from the face of the earth.”The last decent Frenchman was Napoleon ... or so they used to say. Sarkozy is kind of short ... I don't suppose he has any Corsican blood does he? Now all he has to do is use artillery on rioters in Paris, and go on campaign in, well, Campania ... and well, what have we got then?
Sarkozy: “We live in the real world, not the virtual world. And the real world expects us to take decisions.”
“President Obama dreams of a world without weapons … but right in front of us two countries are doing the exact opposite. Iran since 2005 has flouted five security council resolutions. North Korea has been defying council resolutions since 1993. I support the extended hand of the Americans, but what good has proposals for dialogue brought the international community? More uranium enrichment and declarations by the leaders of Iran to wipe a UN member state off the map.”

I hope no one still thinks Napoleon was a decent Frenchman (or even a decent Corsican). He was the sort of leader the world can do without.

Come on ... you've got to admire a man who uses artillery on Parisian rioters, especially if they're the kind of G8 protesters we just saw, or some of those mysterious "youths" that keep burning cars in the city. I have to admit that placing your friends and family on various European thrones was getting a bit carried away, and invading Russia was a bit over the top ... but, well, I kind of like Sarkozy anyway.
